LEGION UPDATE: Arlington, Calhoun Seniors alive at districts; Blair eliminated

The Arlington and Fort Calhoun Senior Legion baseball teams will continue Class B Area 3 Tournament play Sunday in West Point, but the Blair Bears' season is over.
While the Eagles (11-8 overall) are off to a 2-0 start, the Post 348 Pioneers eliminated Post 154 on Saturday with a 9-7, elimination-game victory. Fort Calhoun (8-13) built a 7-0 advantage before the Bears (12-23) scored their first run during the bottom of the fifth inning and battled back into the contest.
Coach James Bilslend's Blair squad — which fell just 2-1 to second-seeded Elkhorn Mount Michael in Friday's opening round — scored two runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh. It's season ended with the bases loaded, however, when Pioneers relief pitcher Austin Welchert recorded his first strikeout for the third out.
Post 348, which lost a 10-0, run-rule game to Waterloo-Valley on Friday, scored four first-inning runs in its second win over Blair this season. The Pioneers' first two runners touched home on an error before Zach Faucher notched an RBI single.
Harrison Schmitt pushed the lead to 4-0 when he scored on another Post 154 error.
The Pioneers, who are coached by Brandon Wynn, will now play a second-straight elimination game in West Point. They play their hosts at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
Arlington will plays its third district game in West Point on Sunday after beating Albion 8-0 on Friday and West Point 10-2 on Saturday. Both games took just 5 innings due to run rule.
The Eagles won their opener, scoring four runs during the first two innings. Nick Smith's triple put coach Ed Menking's team ahead 1-0 before the catcher's courtesy runner, Josh Iossi, scored on a passed ball.
Ahead 2-0, Post 71 scored runs No. 3 and 4 on swings by Wes Martens and Braden Rump.
Then, on Saturday, Arlington jumped out to a 7-0 lead against West Point. Logan Kaup notched two RBIs, Braden Rump scored two runs and Dustin Kirk picked up the pitching win.
The Eagles next play Waterloo-Valley at 5 p.m. Sunday in West Point. Both teams are 2-0 in B3 district play.
