On a scale of 1-to-100, Blair senior basketball player Mya Larson was feeling about as amped as possible during the fourth quarter Saturday at Bennington High School.
“After that second 3 I hit, it was probably at a 100,” she said after the Bears' 50-45 road win.
The 5-foot-4 guard scored eight fourth-period points against the Badgers, including six on back-to-back 3-pointers that turned a 37-35 deficit into a 41-37 lead.
“When I saw an opportunity, I took it because I had the confidence of my team behind me,” Larson said.
The long-range buckets helped BHS produce its 10th win through 11 games this season. Bennington, meanwhile, fell to 5-7 despite taking a 33-32 lead into the final quarter of the tight Eastern Midlands Conference matchup. Freshman Addi Reinoehl had gifted the home team its one-point advantage with a buzzer-beating floater in the lane to end the third.
Overall, though, Larson led coach Matt Aschoff's Bears to victory with a game-high 17 points. Freshman Molly Ladwig scored 11 and senior Makayla Baughman added eight.
Emma John scored 13 points to lead the Badgers, who were outshot 18-for-25 to 14-for-22 from the foul line.
The win was Blair's second barnburner of the week after it came back to win in overtime Jan. 4 against Class D1 No. 1 Fremont Bergan.
“It was an exciting week, yes,” Larson said before joining her family to celebrate after Saturday's game.
