A Kennard man was seriously injured Monday after a firework exploded in his hand.

Washington County sheriff's deputies and Blair Rescue responded to an area near Riverwood Lane and Marina Lane at approximately 10:04 p.m.

Lyle TenEyck, 39, was found to have significant injuries to his right arm and face. He was transported to Memorial Community Hospital and Health System and later taken by medical helicopter to CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy.

TenEyck was listed in critical but stable condition. His injuries are not considered life threatening, according to Capt. Aaron Brensel.

Brensel said debris was found in a 50 foot area of the incident. No one else was injured.

No charges will be filed as a result of this incident.

“But judging by how much damage was done, it was most likely not legally bought in Nebraska,” Brensel said.

“This looks like a one time thing that went horribly wrong,” he added.
