James Michael Traver, of Plattsmouth, passed away at home on March 28, 2021, with his family by his side. He was the strongest man we have ever known, who fought every day against his physical battles due to his multiple strokes, until his passing.

He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Sept. 18, 1953. He was married to his children’s mother, Barbara Traver, in April 1982. They share four children together — Jamie (James) Shaw of Plattsmouth, Nathan (Kayla) Traver of Topeka, Kan., Kristen (Kevin) Janssen of Elmwood, and Samantha Traver of Lincoln.

He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1979. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who loved his career at Kellogg’s in Omaha. He worked as an electrician there until he retired in 2017.

He was the most wonderful grandfather, and he was so very thankful for the time he was able to spend with them after he retired due to his first stroke in 2017. He will always be remembered as a smart, funny, goofy grandpa and father.

The messages and kind words received from friends, family and complete strangers have been heartwarming. Hearing how impactful he was to them and how much they loved him and enjoyed his caring soul have been and will continue to be the greatest gift he could have left us.

He was survived by his four children, 14 grandchildren, 3 sisters, 4 brothers and his children’s mother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Leo and Sally Traver; his grandson, Anthony; his brothers, Tom and John and his stepmother, Ida.

Graveside services were held, privately, at the Omaha National Cemetery on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

He is asking friends and family to perform an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for a stranger in his name, instead of sending flowers.
