Holiday festival, tree lighting planned in Herman

Events to commemorate 150 years

Christmas is coming to Herman this weekend. A Small-Town Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting Ceremony to commemorate 150 years will take place from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the Herman Legion Hall. A hayrack ride will take carolers out into the community and will end at the park for the tree lighting at 4:45 p.m.

The event was planned by the Herman Community Club.

We think it’s important to get everyone together and get the sense of community going,” Village Clerk Vicky Kellogg said. “A lot of younger couples are moving into town and there's a good base of kids now in town.”

Donations will be accepted to offset the cost of the festival and hopefully raise funds to continue building future community events in Herman. They will be serving homemade chicken noodle soup and chili.

Reindeer games, crafts, and activities set up for the children. The children will be able to write a letter to Santa, make ornaments and play games including pin the nose on the reindeer or participating in a Christmas Candy walk. There also will be Christmas cookies for the kids to decorate, a hayrack ride, photo booth, caroling and much more.

The Herman Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting Santa from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.
