A gas line struck near 16th and Butler streets brought concern Wednesday to South Primary School.

Blair police, Blair Fire and Rescue and Washington County sheriff's deputies responded to the incident around 10:40 a.m. Black Hills Energy was also called.

Blair Fire Chief Dave Aten said a contractor doing work hit the service line.

"The school was a little worried," he said. "I said if this is the only thing that happens on the first day of school, we're good."

Primary school principal Megan Harding sent an email to reassure parents.

"Fire Department officials have assured us that we are in no danger at South at this time and our day will continue like normal,” she said.

The gas leak was contained around 11 a.m.
