Gas line struck in Arlington

A voluntary evacuation in the area of 14th and Bell streets in Arlington was the result of a gas line being struck on Friday afternoon.

Washington County sheriff's deputies, Arlington Volunteer Fire Department and Nebraska State Patrol responded to the incident around noon.

"A boring crew bagged a gas line," Arlington Fire Chief Dan Douglas said. "Black Hills Energy is here and is bringing in equipment to get it capped off."

Douglas said it was lucky there was a south wind so nobody was in danger.

"The residents near here were all notified of the situation and some of them self-evacuated," he said.
