Friday Football Update: BHS season ends at 5-5

Bears drop 1st-round playoff game at Skutt

Posted

The Blair High School football team lost its first round Class B playoff game at Omaha Skutt on Friday, 21-7.
Coach Bryan Soukup’s team closed the season with four more wins this fall than it did a year ago, while the Skyhawks advanced into a quarterfinals game with Scottsbluff at 7-3.
“There was growth,” the BHS coach said, citing the Bears improvement from 1-8 to 5-5. “We were a competitive football team.”
Blair led Skutt 7-0 early, turning its first offensive drive into points. Junior quarterback Bode Soukup threw the 32-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Brady Brown with 8:05 left in the first quarter. Kicker Sergio Dominguez then added the extra-point attempt for the Bears’ final score of the season.
From there, the Skyhawks scored three times. Anthony Heithoff tallied a 13-yard touchdown run during the first quarter, Colin Pike scored on a 63-yarder in the second and Wyatt Archer found the end zone on a third-quarter pass from Bennett Turman.
Ethan Baessler intercepted a Skutt pass during the postseason game, but Blair also lost fumbles twice. Soukup, the QB, was sacked multiple times, too, including on three occasions during the Bears’ final possession of the 2022 campaign.
