After scoring just two runs in two games to start the American Legion baseball season, the Fort Calhoun Seniors scored two during the fourth inning and seven in the fifth Tuesday at Omaha Concordia.
The Post 348 Pioneers added another run during the seventh frame, putting away the Mustangs 10-4 for their first win of the summer campaign. Coach Brandon Wynn was happy to see the offensive production.
“It's a good feeling for sure,” he said during his Hansen Broadcast Network postgame interview.
Fort Calhoun trailed 3-0 before Jake Seina and Ty Hallberg knocked in runs during the top of the fourth inning. Austin Welchert later produced the go-ahead run in the fifth as the Pioneers nabbed control.
Seina finished with a game-high four hits, according to Concordia stat-keepers, while Zach Faucher notched three RBIs.
Defensively, Post 348 pitcher Justin Myer allowed three first-inning runs, but struck out eight Mustangs overall. Zach Faucher and Hallberg logged three strikeouts apiece as well.
The Pioneers were scheduled to play Wednesday at Valparaiso, but next compete Tuesday against Blair at Vets Field. The Juniors' game starts at 5:30 p.m. before the Senior game later that night.
