Focus led the Blair volleyball team to its fifth win of the season Tuesday.
“The girls had a strong start at the beginning and we kept building on that,” Bears coach Becca Mellema added after the 25-22, 25-22, 28-26 sweep of Omaha Northwest.
BHS improved to 5-7 with the win, while the Huskies fell to 8-9.
“This whole season we've been working on getting focused instead of frustrated in tight situations, and that showed,” Mellema added. “We were able to adjust to their hits and make the changes we needed to on our side.”
Senior Olivia Fitchhorn notched six kills for the Bears without an error. Sophomore setter Reece Ewoldt returned to the lineup as well after a brief absence this fall, contributing consistent play according to her coach.
Northwest pushed Blair past 25 to score match point at the end of the third set. Focus, again, was key.
“When the game was tied, the girls didn't play nervous or stressed,” Mellema said. “They played their game and kept it clean on our side of the court.”
In addition to the varsity team's victory, the BHS junior varsity and reserve lineups won 2-0 matches. For the night, the Class B Bears were 7-0 over seven sets with the Class A Huskies.
