After a week filled with football and volleyball camp sessions, Fort Calhoun High School athletes from both teams met in a pair of Friday night volleyball scrimmages.
The junior varsity football players beat the JV volleyball lineup 2-1 despite a 25-6 first-set loss, but coach Liz Sevcik's varsity volleyball lineup swept the varsity football players, 3-0.
Coach Adolph Shepardson's football team went into the scrimmage after a two-day trip to the Dakota State Team Camp in South Dakota. It also hosted its Pioneer Camp July 25-26.
The volleyball team, meanwhile, hosted its own camp July 25 through last Thursday.
Official practices for both squads start Aug. 8 as mandated by the NSAA. The FCHS volleyball team's first match is 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at Arlington. The football roster's opener, meanwhile, comes 7 p.m. Aug. 27 against Nebraska City at the Oak Bowl on the campus of Peru State College.
