FCHS softball routs Schuyler, 18-1

Pioneers are 3-3 this season

The Fort Calhoun softball team started its week Monday with a 17-run home victory.
A day later, the Pioneers' road game at Raymond Central was postponed to Sept. 20 by rain. They are 3-3 this season.
Coach Mandy Taylor's team bested Schuyler on Monday, 18-1. The game lasted just 2.5 innings due to run rules with FCHS outhitting its visitor 14-0.
Sam Brewer and Addie Benoit led the Pioneers with three RBIs apiece, while Maddie Reed had two and Malaya Alicea, Morgan Therkildsen and Katie Barta notched one each. Benoit led her team with three hits.
In addition to the Calhoun batters who knocked in runs, Bella Benoit, Montanna Hirchert and Kaylee Taylor had hits, too. The team stole five bases.
Barta and Anna Taylor split the Pioneers' pitching duties, combining for three strikeouts.
FCHS was to host Wahoo Neumann on Thursday, but has Labor Day Weekend off. The Pioneers are back on the field Tuesday at Omaha Duchesne/Roncalli, which plays its home games at Dill Field. The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
