The Fort Calhoun girls basketball team cut its fourth-quarter deficit to single digits four times Thursday at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, but the Raiders held onto the lead and the game, 48-35.
The loss dropped the Pioneers to 2-8 — two days before they fell to 2-9 — but they showed progress against their 6-4 opposition with 25 second-half points.
“We've made a concerted effort to attack more and get to the free throw line,” FCHS coach Marty Plum said. “Our kids did a good job of hunting contact and looking to finish.”
Senior Kenzie Hansen led the Pioneers with 12 points, including seven during the fourth period. The guard cut Logan View's advantage from 11 to nine points twice down the stretch, including with just 1:47 left.
Freshman Bria Bench also notched 12 points for Fort Calhoun. She also provided fourth-quarter offense that cut into the Raiders' advantage. One such bucket produced a 42-33 score after an offensive rebound.
Maddy Tinkham added five points in defeat, while seniors Abbie Anderson and Rianna Wells had four and two, respectively.
Logan View's top scorers were Valerie Uehling (11 points) and Grace Schlueter (10).
In their 11th game of the season, the Pioneers lost at Ashland-Greenwood on Saturday, 56-20. Tinkham and Wells led coach Plum's team with five points apiece, while Bria Bench had four.
The Bluejays improved to 6-5 with the win against FCHS.

Logan View tops FCHS boys in OT
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Raiders evened the season series with Fort Calhoun at a game apiece Thursday, earning a 57-55 overtime victory after losing to the Pioneers on Dec. 30.
In defeat, coach TJ O'Conner's team — which also lost to Ashland-Greenwood on Saturday — battled back from a fourth-quarter deficit to force an extra period before losing its own lead during the 4 minutes of bonus time. FCHS held a 55-51 advantage with 41.7 seconds remaining in overtime before two missed foul shots and the Raiders' hot shooting from behind the 3-point line caught up to it.
Logan View outscored the Pioneers 12-10 during the extra session on just four made shots. Kayl Francis, Riley Hoetfelker, 6-foot-9 Garrett Kriete — who made two — were all true from long range.
Fort Calhoun, meanwhile, outscored the Raiders 15-11 during the fourth quarter to force OT. Carsen Schwarz finally tied the game with 11 seconds left to go, completing an old-fashioned, three-point play with a made free throw.
Schwarz finished with a team-high 18 points for the Pioneers, while Brant Hilzendeger had 12 and Michael Shirley notched 10.
Kriete led the Raiders and all scorers with 20 points as Logan View improved to 7-2.
On Saturday, Fort Calhoun fell behind early and lost at Ashland-Greenwood, 58-36. Zane Schwarz scored a team-high 15 points, but the Pioneers couldn't keep pace with Evan Shepard and the Bluejays.
The home team led 30-17 at halftime and 49-29 after three quarters. Shepard led all scorers with 25 points, while Aiden Lindley had 15, dropping the Pioneers to 3-6 this season.
