The Fort Calhoun girls basketball team outscored Class D1 No. 4 Weeping Water 10-5 during the fourth period Thursday.
The advantage cut into the home team's lead, but it couldn't take the Indians down. Weeping Water (12-3) won 40-34, which also represents the Pioneers' seventh-straight loss. Coach Marty Plum's team is 2-11 this season.
Freshman Bria Bench led FCHS with 14 points, scoring six on two 3-point makes. Tess Skelton added a long-range bucket of her own and had 11 points, while Kenzie Hansen and Abbie Anderson scored five and four, respectively.
Weeping Water's Grace Cave led all scorers with 21 points. She helped her team build a 35-24 lead through three quarters, which was large enough to hold off the Pioneers.
