FCHS boys wrestling takes 7th on the road

Syracuse wins Raymond Central tourney

The Fort Calhoun boys wrestling team earned seventh out of 15 teams at Raymond Central High School on Saturday.
Coach Drew Welchert's Pioneers scored 95 team points, while first-place Syracuse finished with 181. Minden was second with 163.5 points.
Merritt Olberding led FCHS during the tournament, earning second at 120 pounds. The 32-7 wrestler lost to Malcolm's 34-5 Cody Barton in the finals, but beat Gage Kelly of Conestoga and Falls City's Bailey Thimmes by pin to earn the bout.
The Pioneers' Presley Olberding (126 pounds) and Levi Lasher (138) added fourth-place results at Raymond Central, too. Olberding went 2-2 with a 9-1 major decision and a pin, while Lasher earned the same record with a 15-2 major and a 5-2 decision.
FCHS' Alex Schuler and Nathan Duros won their last matches of Saturday's tournament for fifth as well. Schuler beat Drayven Lamb of Auburn by pin at 190 pounds, while Duros also earned a pin against Elkhorn Mount Michael's Tennyson Kelsay.
Fort Calhoun's Lucas DeMilt (106 pounds) and TJ DeMilt (157) took sixth in their weight classes Saturday as well. Their team wrestles next Saturday at the Lincoln High Invitational. Competition starts at 9 a.m.

FCHS splits home duals
Fort Calhoun hosted a triangular with Logan View and Tekamah-Herman last Thursday, going 1-1. The Pioneers beat the Raiders 46-29, but lost a close matchup with the Tigers, 39-35.
Against Logan View, Lucas DeMilt, Merritt Olberding, Presley Olberding and TJ DeMilt secured contested victories. TJ DeMilt won by 15-1 major decision at 157 pounds, while his younger brother and teammates won by pin.
Presley Olberding earned FCHS' lone pin against Tekamah in 3:11. Kasyn Storm, meanwhile, earned an overtime, 13-10 sudden victory for the home team at 120 pounds before Merritt Olberding's 13-9 decision win at 126.
Lasher added an 18-5 technical fall at 144 pounds, too, as the Pioneers fell four team points short of a dual victory.
Calhoun's Sean Waters and Jordan Magana-Torres earned junior varsity wins during Thursday's triangular as well.
