FCHS baseball drops shootout at Plattsmouth

A five-run fourth inning gave the Fort Calhoun baseball team a 10-7 lead Thursday at Plattsmouth, but the Pioneers were unable to hold it.
The Blue Devils eventually earned a 18-10 shootout victory, outscoring coach Roy Prauner's team 7-0 over the final three innings. Plattsmouth improved to 3-0 with the win, while FCHS dropped to 1-2.
The Pioneers started with three runs during the top of the first inning before adding one each during the second and third frames. In doing so, they kept up with the Devils, who score two during the first inning and then five in the second.
Fort Calhoun notched five runs during the top of the fourth frame, briefly holding the lead before PHS notched four during the bottom half and then five more in the fifth to claim control. The Devils then added two more during the sixth inning to reach 18 runs.
Sam Halford and Austin Welchert each notched two RBIs for the Pioneers in defeat, while Tylan Conner and Zach Faucher logged two hits apiece. Conner also had two strikeouts on the pitching mound.
Fort Calhoun was set to host Douglas County West on Monday before tonight's home games against Bennington. The first varsity pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
