The Elkhorn tennis team was dominant in Blair on Tuesday, defeating the host Bears 9-0.
“The wind didn't help,” BHS senior Maicy Lourens said. “But it definitely wasn't all from the wind.”
The talented Antlers swept six singles matches and all three doubles matches. Blair's Bailey Dingfield played in the closest two matches, dropping her singles bout 9-8 and her doubles effort with Addy Nilges 8-5.
Caitlyn Haggstrom (8-4 loss), Alexandra Nilges (8-1), Addy Nilges (8-0), Lourens (8-1) and Phoenixx Penke (8-2) also lost singles matches. Lourens and Penke were defeated 8-2 in doubles play as were Haggstrom and Alexandra Nilges.
Overall, though, Lourens said the Bears aren't in bad shape as the end of the season approaches.
“As a team, a lot of people have improved, especially with varsity,” she said. “A lot of people you wouldn't really have assumed to step up have.”
The senior named the Nilges sisters as standouts this spring as well as Haggstrom — Blair's No. 1 singles player.
BHS hosts Waverly today at Stemmermann Park. The varsity matches begin at 4 p.m.
