EDITORIAL: Give, give, give on Tuesday

Posted

It's that time of year again.

On Nov. 29, the Washington County Community Foundation and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce will team up for Washington County Gives. Throughout the day, businesses, organizations and individuals will donate funds to dozens of area non-profits in order to bolster their efforts and provide new services to the community.

Since the COVID pandemic settled in in 2020, the effort has generated nearly $250,000, racking up $109,000 and $115,000 in 2020 and 2021, respectively. This is no small task considering the circumstances, and the current economic climate has again had people keeping a closer eye on their banking accounts.

It's understandable if a donation to this year's effort isn't in the budget. But if it is, consider sparing a few dollars (to the eligible donation of your choice) or maybe a little more if the budget allows. The beauty of Washington County Gives is that you get to choose where your money goes and every dime makes it to the non-profit of your choice. This ability to directly benefit an organization means your heartfelt donation goes towards an effort or cause near and dear to your hearts.

Washington County Gives day goes beyond just donating dollars to organizations. It helps ensure many of these non-profits can purchase new equipment, programs and features in order to continue serving Washington County residents. Many of these organizations rely on the money raised in order to further their missions.

Of course, a fundraising effort to this level couldn't be possible without the dedication of those who work to put it on each year. It requires endless coordination and the ability to not be afraid to ask for donations in, again, a time where is a concern for many. The effort of those behind the scenes to make Washington County Gives as big of a deal as it is has been why it's been successful in past years but continues to grow.

So if the holiday season has you in the giving mood and you want to help support those who work to make the county a better place to live, work and play, consider a contribution to Washington County Gives.
