The Arlington volleyball team played five home matches in four days' time, but fell to 3-13 with five-straight defeats.
The Eagles ended their five-match home stretch with back-to-back losses to Wayne and West Point-Beemer on Tuesday night. The 15-7 Blue Devils and 16-5 Cadets each earned 2-0 sweeps during the AHS triangular.
First, against Wayne, Kailynn Gubbels put the Eagles ahead 4-3 early during the first set.
A 7-0 Devil streak, however, changed the course of the match. Arlington's Chase Andersen would notch a late kill, but the opposition won the set 25-10 before winning the second 25-8.
West Point-Beemer then bested the Eagles 25-22 and 25-16. AHS led late during the first, but were outscored 5-2 after the Cadets evened the score at 20.
West Point then dominated the second set before a late run by coach Katarina Nelson's team. Trailing 22-10, Andersen notched a block. She added an ace and Gubbels notched a kill, pulling the Eagles within nine points.
The Cadets cut off the streak to make the score 23-13, but AHS again scored three-straight points. Gubbels' attack was successful for her team's 14th point before Claire Allen's ace and Kate Miller's tip pulled the Eagles within seven.
Ultimately, though, Arlington dropped its fifth home match in four days' time.
