Arlington golfer Dianna Taylor didn't close out the season how she wanted to, but the senior made Eagles history nonetheless.
Taylor became just the second AHS golfer to compete at a girls state tournament Monday and Tuesday, finishing 85th out of 95 players at Elks Country Club in Columbus. She finished with 245 strokes over 36 holes at the Class C State Golf Championships.
Eagles coach Jason Wiese said he was proud of his senior despite an off day Tuesday.
“I'm very proud of her though as she showed great character and perseverance even though her game wasn't where she wanted it to be today,” he said.
Taylor opened her state tourney Monday with a 113 over 18 holes. She sunk a par shot on hole No. 6 and took more than seven swings on just three holes over the round.
The next day, however, Taylor carded 132 swings in Columbus, which led to her own disappointment.
“Very proud of her for a great season,” Wiese said in summation. “Her last hole of her career was her best hole today, and I hope she is able to remember all the good shots she had throughout her career.”
The history-making golfer was just the Eagles' second to reach the state tourney, doing it 22 years after the first. That golfer, Erin Wilkins, is now a APS sixth-grade teacher named Erin Reed.
