Points weren't easy to come by Friday as the Arlington boys basketball team hosted the Louisville Lions.
The 10-9 visitors held the 14-7 Eagles to just 14 through 16 minutes, but the 18 points they surrendered during the fourth period proved costly. Coach Tyler Spitser's squad took the lead with the first bucket of the final quarter and led until the final buzzer, winning 42-38.
“We just took care of the ball a lot better in the second half,” the AHS coach said. “In the first half their scrappiness was able to speed us up, and we really let them dictate what they wanted to do.”
Arlington committed nine turnovers in falling behind 19-14, but gave up just two after intermission. With that improvement, the Eagles outscored the Lions 28-19 over the final 16 minutes.
“Second half, we took care of it,” Spitser said, crediting his AHS ball handlers. “(It was) guards stepping up and wanting the ball.”
Senior post player Aiden Foreman, meanwhile, put the ball through the cylinder. He scored eight of the Eagles 18 — including a layup capper at the buzzer — during the fourth period, finishing with a team-high 20.
Arlington juniors Dustin Kirk and Colby Grefe added seven points apiece. Nick Smith scored six Spitser's squad picked up its 14th win of the season.
Before the game, the Eagles celebrated their seniors — Foreman, Grant Martens and statistician Wes Martens.
