Playing without one of its senior standouts, the Arlington High School volleyball team dropped its Nebraska Capitol Conference (NCC) Tournament opener at Raymond Central on Tuesday night.
The fifth-seeded Eagles fell 25-13, 25-14 and 25-13 to the No. 4 Mustangs, falling to 14-9 this season. Raymond Central improved to 14-8.
Coach Katarina Nelson confirmed the Eagles played the match without injured senior Kailynn Gubbels, who set the school record for kills in a match a week earlier against the Mustangs. The mark stands at 29 kills.
AHS led early during both the first and third sets Tuesday. It went ahead 10-9 during the third when setter Janessa Wakefield set up fellow senior Chase Andersen for a kill, but the advantage didn't hold.
The Eagles were scheduled to play a second NCC Tournament match Thursday, but will next play next Tuesday at home against Syracuse.
