Eagle basketball teams split games with Cougars

Arlington girls win home game, boys lose

The Arlington girls basketball team started Friday's home doubleheader with a win before the Eagle boys ended it in defeat.
Coach Luke Brenn's squad beat Conestoga 46-38, outscoring the Cougars 19-11 during the fourth period. The girls team is 11-8 this season.
Freshman Emme Timm scored nine AHS points during the final quarter, while sophomore Britt Nielsen had eight. The latter finished with 10 points for the game, while Timm made four 3-pointers and totaled a game-high 16 points.
Macy Wolf, another Eagles freshman, scored seven first-period points and finished with 11, too.
Overall, Arlington has won four of its last five games. Its lone loss during the stretch was a Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament defeat to 18-2 Yutan.
The Eagles next compete 6:30 p.m. today at Plattsmouth.

Boys fall, 47-22
The Arlington boys' offensive struggles continued Friday during a 47-22 loss to Conestoga.
The Eagles (5-14 overall) scored just four first-period, seven second-period, six third-period and five fourth-period points at home. Their 22-point output was their fifth time in the 20s this season.
Trent Koger led AHS in defeat with nine points, while Oliver Ladehoff had five, and both Tim Halley and Kieryn Grothe scored three. Senior Weston Wollberg scored two points, too.
Six-foot-5 Zachariah Smith led the Cougars with 16 points. His team improved to 10-8 overall with the win.
AHS next competes 8 p.m. today at Plattsmouth.
