DeSoto, Boyer Chute to close for deer hunts

Posted

The DeSoto and Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuges will be temporary closed beginning Saturday for two deer hunts.
The DeSoto antlerless muzzleloader deer hunt will close the refuge Saturday and Sunday. All roads and nature trails will be closed beyond the visitor center to ensure public safety and facilitate a white-tailed deer hunt, according to recent release.
The DeSoto visitor center, however, will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.
Boyer Chute, meanwhile, will be closed Saturday through Dec. 12 for a week-long antlerless only muzzleloader deer hunt. The refuge will be closed to all other public access.
Archery units, however, will remain open for archery hunters during the muzzleloader hunts at Boyer Chute, though archers must wear blaze orange to meet state requirements.
Nebraska hunters can participate in the Boyer Chute hunt with a Statewide Muzzleloader Permit or a Season Choice-Wahoo Unit permit. In addition, hunters are required to possess a signed copy of the Boyer Chute Refuge Hunting Regulation and Permit Brochure, which can be found online at fws.gov/refuge/refuge/Boyer_Chute/visit/vistor_activites.html or at the refuge kiosk.
