Wilkins, Barney earn runner-up finishes

Jason Kursave of Arcadia earned a 71-point bull ride Sunday during the second day of the Washington County Fair Rodeo, edging out Arlington's own, Brodie Wilkins.
The Arlington High School student-athlete notched a 68-point ride Saturday, earning $556.95 for his second-place efforts.
Another Washington County cowboy, Mitch Barney of Blair, secured a second-place finish in the mixed team-roping event with Makayla Wray of Ord. They finished in 7.3 seconds, while the first-place team of Jace Hurlburt and Kayden Sherwood clocked in at 7.1.
Cassidy and Jason Arp of Kennard were third overall after posting the top time of the first performance, too.
Herman cowgirl Charley Hoier earned $367.54 for her fourth-place overall finish in the breakaway roping, while Fallon Crim of Ottawa, Kan., took first in 3 seconds.
Another Mid-States Rodeo Association (M-SRA) winner in Arlington was Jaxson Davis. The tie-down roping cowboy from Bloomfield, Iowa, clocked in at 9.6 seconds.
Gene Crouse of Gallatin, Mo., won the age 45 and older tie-down roping in 11.2 as well.
Corby Chytka and Monte Snider took first in the team roping event in 4.9 seconds, while Taylor King's Saturday night run held up to win the barrel racing in 15.53 seconds. Hoyt Kraeger of Weeping Water won the steer wresting in 4.4 seconds as well, scoring $686.20 in winnings.
In a correction from Tuesday's Washington County Pilot-Tribune story, John Allen bested Miles Kreeger with a 71-point saddle bronc ride for first. Kreeger finished with a 61 for second, according to M-SRA results posted online.
