Nine Washington County high school softball players and four cross-country runners recently earned all-state honors.
The Lincoln Journal Star announced its all-state softball teams during the last week of October, while the Nebraska Coaches Association (NCA) released its all-state lists last Thursday.
Four Blair Bears were recognized by the Journal Star. Sophomore Nessa McMillen was the headliner, earning second-team Class B softball honors. She hit at a .469 batting average with five home runs and a team-best 38 RBIs.
BHS' Tessa Villotta, Leah Chance and Brooke Janning, meanwhile, were honorable mention recipients. Villotta had six homers and 37 RBIs this fall, while Chance scored 33 runs and had a team-best 12 steals. Janning, a freshman, hit .423 during her first season.
In addition, five Arlington Eagles claimed Class C honorable mention from the Journal Star. Senior Hailey Brenn hit .390, but also pitched to a 3.27 ERA with 143 strikeouts.
The Eagles' Emery McIntosh (.409 average), Cadie Robinson (.341), Gracie Herman (six homers) and Hannah Stahlecker (22 RBIs) were recognized as well.
The NCA's cross-country honorees included runners from Fort Calhoun and Arlington. Jacob Rupp, Ely Olberding and Lance Olberding were Class C all-state recipients after their top-five state finishes helped the Pioneers to a state championship.
The Eagles' Keelianne Green, meanwhile, claimed super-state recognition after her championship run at Kearney Country Club last month.
Additional fall sports all-state lists are expected over the next month from Nebraska publications and associations.
