Classic cars are back on Thursday nights

The Washington County Show and Shine Traveling Car Shows are returning a second year.

Tim Hirchert of Olsen Auto Service in Blair and Darren Rogers with North 40 Auto of Arlington created the car show events last year. Hirchert said the show was created to "support local business and get people out."

The season begins in Arlington on May 6. It's a free car show with no registration.

Hirchert said the shows were a success last year.

"Last year, almost every restaurant we went to, there was about 35 cars. That's 35 more people or cars than what they would have had on a Thursday night," he said. "It's not always about having a hot rod - it's a matter of wanting to get out and be part of something. You don't have to have a classic car or a race car."

Jordan Rishel, executive director of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, said there is one location added this year — Chatterbox Brews in Tekamah.

"We decided that because of the five weeks we did last year, it was successful, we definitely wanted to make it happen this year," she said. "It was good for the communities and helped out the restaurants."

Rishel said it was a good partnership between sponsors and the chamber.

"It helped out those businesses that last year especially were struggling with shut down or lower capacity and we're hoping that it gives them a bump each time," she said.
