Sophomore Grayson Bouwman scored 30 points Tuesday as the Class C1 No. 9 Fort Calhoun boys basketball team bounced back from its weekend loss to No. 1 Ashland-Greenwood.
The Pioneers bested Louisville on the road, 52-46, improving to 10-3 after last Saturday's defeat. Bouwman's offensive effort helped in fellow starter Zane Schwarz's absence, while coach TJ O'Connor said Zach Nelson, Glenn Hunter, Austin Welchert and Owen Newbold “all battled hard,” particularly on defense.
Bouwman made two 3-pointers and was a fixture at the foul line during the road win on the Lions' home court, while Carsen Schwarz added 17 points with eight two-point makes from inside the arc.
Cash Biesterfeld, meanwhile, scored 12 points for Louisville. It fell to 5-8 in defeat.
Fort Calhoun next competes Tuesday when it hosts Omaha Brownell-Talbot at 7:30 p.m.

FCHS girls start slow in loss
Fort Calhoun senior Tess Skelton managed the Pioneers' only two points during Tuesday's first period at Louisville.
The guard finished with 20, but it wasn't enough as coach Marty Plum's squad couldn't quite make up for its slow start during the 42-28 road loss. The defeat dropped FCHS' season record to 5-9.
The host Lions jumped out to a 15-2 lead through one quarter and had a 25-14 advantage at halftime. The Pioneers back within just five points with a 7-1 third period, but ultimately lost by 14.
Avery Heilig led Louisville with 20 points, while Jaylin Gaston had 8. In addition to Skelton's 20, Bria Bench added four for Fort Calhoun.
