BREAKING: 34 county athletes qualify for state track meet

22 Bears earn trip, girls win district title

Thirty-four Washington County high school track and field athletes will continue their seasons May 21-22 during the NSAA State Championships at Omaha Burke.
The 22 Blair Bears, eight Arlington Eagles and four Fort Calhoun Pioneers qualified Thursday during district meets at Krantz Field and Albion Boone Central High School.
The BHS girls won the Class B-2 District meet with 164 team points to second-place Elkhorn North's 110, while the hometown boys team claimed fourth with 69.
The Bears won eight district events overall. Reese Beemer, Erika Roehrs, Nolan Slominski, Abby Osborn, Grace Galbraith, Hailey Amandus, Reece Ewoldt, Kaitlynn Amandus, Makayla Baughman, Zach Keeling, Nick Wayman and Mason Bell contributed to those victories with Beemer walking away with four gold medals.
Fort Calhoun, meanwhile, was seventh in the B-2 boys standings with 32 points, and the girls were ninth with nine. Jacob Rupp won two races for the Pioneers — the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.
In Albion, the Arlington girls earned runner-up honors with 81 points to their hosts' 107.5. The boys were were eighth with 21 points.
The Eagles' Kailynn Gubbels, Keelianne Green, Chase Andersen, Kiersten Taylor and Jesse Thompson were apart of AHS event wins.
