Archers new and old participated Sunday during the Brandon Tomcak Memorial 3-D Shoot at the Lake Cunningham Archery Range near Omaha.
Orion Archery Club of Blair, in collaboration with the Tomcak family, have orchestrated the annual event for 15 years since Brandon — an avid archer from Blair — was killed in a car crash on Jan. 16, 2005. The event is geared toward inexperienced shooters and is meant to introduce a love of the sport to people new to it.
Guided instruction and equipment was available for newcomers during the event. Twenty 3D animal targets were along the tree-covered course for the archers to take aim at as well.
Overall, the event has introduced 3,000-plus shooters to archery in its 15 years, according to a Memorial Shoot flyer. Its also raised $77,600, provided more than $41,000 in scholarship funds to high school graduates in Blair and surrounding communities, and sent 107 children to the Ted Nugent Kamp for Kids.
“Most importantly, we continue to focus on the mission, 'It's All About the Kids!' in collaboration with Orion Archery,” the flyer read.
