Grayson Bouwman delivered a lot of what Fort Calhoun High School basketball supporters will remember about him July 24 during the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Game at Lincoln North Star.
The Class C1 all-stater made four 3-pointers, finishing with 12 points as his Red squad beat the Blue team in a high-scoring affair filled with dunks, 132-122.
“I shot it pretty well tonight,” the Pioneers' all-time leading scorer said. “Got some open looks from teammates driving.”
The Red, coached by Fillmore Central's Derek Reinsch and Jason Ahrens of Conestoga, led 33-26 after one 10-minute period. During the second, Bouwman contributed three 3s to the victorious team's 67-58 advantage. He made two of the long-range buckets right away from the left wing before taking a step or two back for a longer make from the right, going 3-for-3 from distance during the quarter.
From there, the multi-sport FCHS standout added his fourth and final 3-point make during the third period as the Red built its lead to 21 points, 96-75.
Treyson Anderson, a 6-foot-10 post player from Lincoln Pius X, ultimately led the Red team with 27 points, slamming home alley-oops and two-handed jams throughout the game. Daleron Thomas of Omaha Central added 20 points, too.
The Blue team's Mynor Strong, meanwhile, led it in scoring. The Omaha North product had 22 points, while Omaha Westside's Kevin Stubblefield had 16.
Players familiar to Fort Calhoun supporters such as Maverick Binder of Auburn, Wahoo's Marcus Glock and Quientan McCafferty of Omaha Concordia also contributed to the Blue squad's offensive output.
Bouwman, however, played alongside Dan Jacobsen of Ashland-Greenwood and Conestoga's Noah Simones. The Calhoun grad did not know all of the game's players before the two-day all-star experience, though.
“I met a lot of new people, a lot of Class A guys — the top players in the state,” he said. “It was kind of nice to bond over basketball with all of them.”
Bouwman said he's already started to build camaraderie with his new college teammates, too. He moves to Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa, on Aug. 18 with hoops and school set to begin not too long thereafter.
“I'm excited,” the all-star said. “I've been up there quite a bit this summer, so I know a lot of the guys and know what the campus is like.”
It's on that campus where Bouwman will try to add to his career total in 3-point makes.
