Blair's No. 2 singles, doubles pick up tennis invite wins

Blair High School tennis' Alexandra Nilges, Mallory Dreher and Jenna Murch-Shafer closed their regular season schedules with victories Thursday during the Waverly Invite.
Coach Dallas Roach's Bears went 0-3 across three rounds of pool play competition against Norris, York and Bennington, but went 2-2 in matches when the pools merged for the final round.
Nilges was 1-3 overall at No. 2 singles, finishing her day off with an 8-2 victory against a Waverly opponent.
The No. 2 doubles pairing of Dreher and Murch-Shafer also went 1-3. The BHS team defeated two Vikings 8-1 after playing a tight, 8-6 match against a Bennington duo.
Blair's Caitlyn Haggstrom, Addy Nilges and Bailey Dingfield, meanwhile, went 0-4 in Thursday's tournament. Haggstrom's closest match at No. 1 singles was an 8-5 loss to a Waverly opponent, while Addy Nilges and Dingfield lost matches 8-4, 8-1, 8-3 and 8-5 throughout the day.
The Bears next compete 9 a.m. Thursday during the NSAA Class B State Tennis Championships. Two-out-of-3 first round matches will be contested at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln.
If BHS players advance through state play, they'll contend for top finishes 9 a.m. Thursday at the same location. Class B championship matches begin at 1 p.m.
