Blair tennis loses 6-3 dual to Bennington

Bears go 2-1 in doubles play

The Blair varsity tennis team went 2-1 in doubles matches but lost a 6-3 dual to Bennington on Thursday.
The Bears' Nos. 1 and 2 pairings won on the Badgers' home courts. Maicy Lourens and Phoenixx Penke won an 8-4 match, while Addy Nilges and Bailey Dingfield bested their opposition 9-7.
In singles play, however, just Nilges earned a victory. She won her No. 3 matchup 8-1 and finished 2-0 for the afternoon.
Outside of Nilges' victory, BHS lost mostly close singles matches.
“Definitely had some chances to have matches go our way,” coach Matt Aschoff said.
Caitlyn Haggstrom fell 8-5, while Alexandra Nilges lost by the same score. Lourens lost 8-2, Penke fell 8-6 and Dingfield fell short 8-5.
Haggstrom and Alexandra Nilges lost their No. 3 doubles match 9-7 to a Bennington duo.
The Blair varsity next competes Thursday at Nebraska City. The junior varsity hosts the Pioneers at Stemmermann Park beginning at 4 p.m.
