In a specially called meeting Thursday night, the Blair City Council authorized the city to terminate its contract with MC Wells Contracting, the company that was supposed to be installing a 30-inch water line from the water treatment plant to the north entrance of the Cargill biocampus.
Last summer, during the boring process to install the new water line, the pipe got stuck and to this day MC Wells has not been able to get the pipe out of the ground or otherwise complete the project, according to Blair City Administrator Phil Green.
Officials with MC Wells were not immediately available for comment.
That has left the city of Blair with two problems: How to get the project finished and satisfy Cargill’s needs for additional water, and how to hold MC Wells accountable for the work that, in the city of Blair’s opinion, was unacceptable based on the $4.3 million contract between the two entities.
