Despite three goals from Gabe Zurek, the Blair boys soccer team lost a 5-3 match against Class B No. 7 Columbus Scotus on Tuesday.
The Shamrocks won at Krantz Field, spoiling the Bears' Senior Night.
“With this being Senior Night, I really wanted to get this one,” BHS coach Curt Scott said. “I can't say enough great things about these guys.”
The loss dropped Blair to 8-4 this season, while Scotus improved to 5-6. The visitors scored 54 seconds into the match and then 8 minutes into the second half. As Blair battled back, the Shamrocks added three more goals from the 62nd minute of Tuesday's game on until the finish.
Zurek, meanwhile, celebrated his Senior Night with three goals. First, the wing scored on a 40-plus yard free kick, which cleared over the outreached hands of the Scotus goalkeeper.
Zurek then added goals during the 56th and 77tth minutes, but it wasn't enough.
Still, Scott, who is in his first season coaching at BHS, gave all credit to his 12th-grade class for the Bears' successes in Tuesday's matchup as well as on the season.
“This is the backbone of our team,” he said of the seven Blair seniors. “The program.”

Bears struggle on road
The Blair Bears lost a 4-0 game to Norris on snow-speckled turf Monday, too.
The Titans (7-5 overall) scored two first-half goals and two more during the second 40 minutes. Blair, meanwhile, finished scoreless for the first time this season.
The Bears' defeat was their third in their previous four games. They've now lost four of five.
