The Blair boys basketball team struggled offensively in its Eastern Midlands Conference Tourney opener Wednesday, scoring just 30 points in a 61-30 loss at fourth-seeded Bennington.
Cade Ulven scored the Bears' first bucket of the first period on a leaner in the lane before Luke Ladwig scored the second on an acrobatic layup in traffic. Those two hoops, however, were BHS' only points of the opening quarter as it fell behind 15-4.
Coach Chris Whitwer's team responded with a 14-point second period, but it then tallied just 12 points after halftime during the 31-point loss. With that, Blair fell to the EMC consolation round with its eighth loss of the season.
The Bears' consolation game against Elkhorn North, however, never happened. It was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, according to Whitwer. Tuesday night's game is also canceled.
