The Class B No. 9 Blair girls basketball team scored more points from the foul line than the field Tuesday night, but still picked up a 41-35 road victory.
Coach Matt Aschoff's Bears were 22-for-25 on free throws, holding off Omaha Roncalli (5-12 overall) with a 12-for-16 fourth-quarter performance. Junior guard Makayla Baugham was 8-for-8 from the charity strip during the final period and 13-of-13 overall, scoring a game-high 20 points as BHS improved to 12-6 this season.
The Bears jumped out to a 14-2 lead through one period, led 22-17 at halftime and held off the Pride late despite not hitting a shot with the clock running during the 14-10 fourth.
While Baughman tallied 20 points, Leah Chance scored six and Allison Hernandez had five. Chance's came on two makes from beyond the 3-point line, while Hernandez made five of her six free throw attempts.
“Allison Hernandez and Sami Murray came off the bench and played very solid defense, and attacked on the offensive side,” Aschoff said.
Blair is scheduled to host Seward tonight at 6 p.m.
The BHS boys basketball team was scheduled to play Tuesday as well, but the game became the Bears' second-straight to be canceled with the team quarantining due to COVID-19.
