The Blair High School volleyball team played three nail-biter sets Tuesday night, winning all three for a road sweep at Nebraska City.
Coach Becca Mellema's Bears improved to 9-15 with the 27-25, 25-23 and 25-23 win, while the host Pioneers fell to 5-24.
BHS broke a 25-25, first-set tie when senior Claire Gochanour tapped the ball over the net and to the floor. Reece Ewoldt then set the ball to Nebraska City, who hit it out of bounds for set-ending point.
Two more miscues cost the Pioneers the second set, too. A service error gave Blair a 24-23 advantage before it took a 2-0 lead on an attack error.
Then, during the final stages of the match, the Bears held their hosts off. Taylor Mostek's kill skipped off of a Nebraska City player and to the floor, giving BHS a 22-19 advantage.
The Pioneers battled back, but Gochanour provided the Bears' final touch. Her 24-23 swing made it over the net and within the lines, but was was never returned.
Blair was scheduled to play its regular season finale Thursday, but next competes Tuesday during the Class B4 Subdistrict Tournament. The host site and matchups were undetermined as of press time.
