Blair High School recently hired Becca Mellema as its next head volleyball coach.
The substitute teacher and event florist served as the Bears' freshman coach last fall. She replaces Brandi Nicholson, who went 19-66 in three seasons.
“I am honored to accept the head volleyball coach position at Blair High School,” Mellema said in a school release. “These girls are hard workers and I know they are capable of so much. I am excited to get started this summer and prepare for a great season in the fall.”
The new coach played college volleyball at Grace University from 2015-2017, earning team captain status. She was also a member of the 500 kills club.
The BHS release stated Mellema was hired from an “extensive pool of candidates.” Her Bears were 7-21 last season, reaching the district finals and finishing second to Omaha Skutt.
