Cayla Nielsen closed out her Blair High School softball career in 2018 with Class B All-State and All-Eastern Midlands Conference honors.
On Tuesday, though, the Creighton Bluejay was recognized as a first team All-Big East performer. The junior outfielder was a unanimous selection, according to a school release, batting at a .400 average in conference play. She had the second-most hits in the league and was tied for first in home runs with eight.
Overall, however, Nielsen led Creighton with a .395 batting average this season. The former Bear notched 62 hits, scored 43 runs and stole six bases.
The starting outfielder also tallied 11 doubles, drew 24 walks and hit nine homers overall as the Bluejays went 22-31. She reached base safely in 45 of her 52 CU games this spring.
Nielsen currently ranks eighth overall in Bluejay history with a .329 career batting average. She is just the eighth player since Creighton joined the Big East in 2014 to earn first-team recognition.
