The Blair boys wrestling team represented Nebraska alone Saturday in Urbandale, Iowa, finishing eighth during the 24-team Ed Winger Classic.
Led by Hudson Loges' second-place finish at 106 pounds, the Bears scored 93 team points. Waverly-Shell Rock, the champions, scored 200, while second-place Southeast Polk scored 187.
Loges went 3-1, dropping his first match of the season in the finals against Carter Pearson of Southeast Polk. Pearson won by 12-4 major decision, pushing his record to 31-1, while the BHS wrestler's dropped to 40-1.
Yoan Camejo is 28-6 after his fourth-place effort at 160 pounds. The Bear went 3-2 Saturday, claiming two decisions after a quarterfinals loss to unbeaten Danny Diaz of Waverly-Shell Rock. He then lost his third-place match against Fort Dodge's Damarion Ross, 4-3.
Luke Frost capped a 3-2 day with a 13-1 major decision at 120 pounds. He was fifth, while Kaden Sears earned sixth at 182 with a 2-3 record. Both of Sears' wins came by pin.
Blair's Tyson Brown, Jesse Loges and Atticus Dick added seventh-place finishes in Urbandale, too. Brown was 3-2 at 132 pounds, while Loges earned the same mark at 138.
Dick lost his first match by 14-9 decision before winning four straight at 145 to finish 4-1. He was his team's leader in pins on the day with three.
The Bears' Tannon Bellamy (one), Blaise Baughman (one) and Seagan Packett-Trisdale (two) notched contested victories during the Ed Winger Invite, too. Their team next competes 4:30 p.m. today in a rescheduled home triangular against Elkhorn South and Millard West. The event was originally set for last Thursday, but was postponed by winter weather conditions.
