The Blair boys soccer team broke a 1-1 tie with two second half goals Thursday, securing a third-place finish in the Eastern Midlands Conference tournament.
The Bears (8-2 overall) beat Elkhorn (3-9) 3-1 at Krantz Field, breaking a two-game losing streak.
Gabe Zurek scored his 17th goal of the season just 6 minutes into the third-place match, but the Antlers evened the score before halftime.
BHS broke that tie, however, as Zurek and Wyatt Wiemer added second-half goals to pick up their team's eighth win of the season.
“Player of the game is Gabe but not by much,” Bears coach Curt Scott said. “It was a total team win and a great way to jump into our second half of the season.”
He complimented the play of Victor Dufau and Shay Bailey, while also noting the efforts of freshmen substitutes Crayton Macholan, Colton Matney and Riley Wolff who played “excellent.”
The Bears next play 7 p.m. today against Columbus Scotus after Monday's scheduled game against Norris. The Scotus game will be contested back at Krantz Field.
