Bears win 4 track events in Ashland

Boys team finishes 2nd, girls 3rd

The Blair High School track team failed to win a field event under overcast skies Saturday morning at the Ashland-Greenwood Invite.
Once cloud cover cleared, however, the Bears won four running events and finished second in the boys' team standings with 82.5 points. The BHS girls, meanwhile, took third with 73.
Elkhorn swept the team titles with 128 boys points and 104 in girls events.
Senior Nolan Slominski led coach Bryan Soukup's Blair team, however, with wins in the 400-meter dash and the 800 run. The Dakota State recruit clocked in at 52.36 seconds and 1:59.91, respectively.
Blair's Zac Keeling finished second to Slominski in the 400, too, crossing the finish line in 53.36.
In addition, senior Dawson Fricke won the 3,200-meter run in 10:05.2. He topped the second-place runner, Aaron Raszler of Platteview, by 2.76 seconds.
The Bears' Allie Czapla, meanwhile, won the girls' 3,200 run by 9.28 seconds. She finished in 13:22.34, Platteview's Lydia Stewart clocked in at 13:31.62 and third-place Nadia Davey of Blair finished in 13:44.48.
Blair's Shelton Anderson (third in the triple jump), Braden McGill (third in the shot put), Reese Beemer (second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes), Reece Ewoldt (third in the 1,600 run) and Greta Galbraith (third in the pole vault) added top-three individual finishes in Ashland, too. The Bears next compete 10:30 a.m. this Saturday during the Ralston Relays on the Rams' home track.
