Bears tennis wins at home, falls on the road

BHS beats Ralston 5-4

The Blair tennis team stood across the net from Ralston Rams and Fremont Tigers this week.
Before traveling to Fremont on Tuesday, the Bears played Ralston at home Monday, going 4-2 in singles matches to beat the Rams 5-4.
Caitlyn Haggstrom won her No. 1 singles match 8-0, while Anissa Delgado claimed her No. 2 bout 9-8 by 7-5 tiebreaker. Addy Nilges won a 8-2 match and Bailey Dingfield added a 8-3 victory.
In doubles competition, BHS went 1-2 against Ralston duos. Haggstrom and Dingfield combined for an 8-5 win.
Delaney Dishman and Taeja Hipnar, meanwhile, won exhibition matches Monday. The pair won a 8-6 doubles match before Dishman claimed a victory in singles competition, 9-7.
The next afternoon, the Class A Tigers beat BHS 8-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Nilges and Dingfield earned the Bears' lone win, 8-6. Haggstrom and Dingfield lost close singles matches 9-7 and 8-5, respectively, while the pairing of Maicy Lourens and Phoenixx Penke lost their doubles match just 8-6.
Coach Matt Aschoff's team next competes Saturday morning at the Ralston Invitational at Omaha's Tranquility Park. Sixteen total teams are expected to compete.
