All eyes were on Luke Frost and Carter Moore as Blair and Platteview determined which wrestling lineup would go onto the Blair High School Duals Tournament final Friday night.
With the Bears trailing 36-33, Frost felt the focus on him as his 113-pound match went on.
“Lot of pressure that third period,” the sophomore said, cracking a smile.
A pin by senior Lance Hume on the mat opposite Frost's gave the 113-pounder a chance to tie or beat the Trojans. He answered the call, earning a 14-5 major decision for a 37-36 BHS win.
The Bears advanced to the championship finals against Beatrice, but fell short 38-33. With two holes in its lineup due to injury, coach Erich Warner's squad lost the title tilt with the Orangemen in the final match of the night.
“I was hoping we were going to win, but second-place isn't too bad,” Frost said.
Overall, Blair went 3-1 on the second date of its season-opening weekend and 5-1 altogether when including Thursday's results. The closest victory of all came against Platteview.
“I just listened to my coaches, seeing what they had to say and trying to improve my game the whole match,” Frost said.
His win was just one of seven for the Bears against the Trojans. Dex Larsen, Hume and Jesse Loges earned pins down the stretch to get BHS over the top on their home mat.
“Everyone was really hype to see who was going to win and who was going to lose,” Bear Yoan Camejo said of the unofficial tourney semifinal. “I, personally, was cheering on the team hoping we were going to win, and we did really good.”
Charlie Powers, Braden Hansen and he added their own match wins against Platteview. Powers' pin at 145 pounds came in just 12 seconds, while Camejo won in 1:18 at 152.
“I got to get better working top and bottom, but right now I'm doing pretty good on my feet,” the latter said.
In the finals, Camejo was one of seven Bears victorious against Beatrice. He earned a sudden victory against Cole Maschmann, while Loges and Powers earned pins.
Frost added a technical fall, while Larsen notched a major decision and Atticus Dick claimed a 4-1 decision at 126 pounds. Hume won by injury default in his team's defeat as well.
Hours earlier to start the night, Blair also notched dual wins against Ralston (58-16) and Schuyler (58-9). Dylan Berg, Dane Larsen, Dex Larsen, Livai Opetaia, Hume and Loges earned pins during that two-dual stretch.

Blair sweeps season-opening duals
A day before its home tourney, BHS went 2-0 Thursday in its season-opening triangular against Fremont and Papillion-La Vista South.
The Bears first bested Fremont 48-23 with four victories by pin. Dick earned a fall at 126 pounds in 5:10, while Powers earned a first-period pin at 145. Camejo and Braden Hanson scored pins at 152 and 182 pounds as well.
Then, to cap the unbeaten night, the Bears outscored the Titans 52-18. Powers, Camejo, Dex Larsen and Hume picked up pins, while Frost (7-3), Dick (6-5) and Hanson (13-5 major) won by 6-minute decisions.
Papio South failed to score a team point above the 138-pound weight class, falling to 1-1 on the night after a 55-24 win against Fremont.
