Anna Moore and Mallory Stirek carded the Blair High School golf team's best scores Monday during the Bears' home invite at River Wilds Golf Club.
Moore finished 12th with 96 strokes, while Stirek finished just outside of the top-15 with 100 swings over 18 holes. After that, Carrie Truhlsen, Emma Wilson and Mackenzie Storjohann notched BHS' next-best scores. Two of the three were playing as apart of the Bears' No. 2 lineup.
“I need to put the right pieces together,” Blair coach Ross Udey said after his No. 1 unit finished seventh at the 14-team tournament. The second team of five took 11th. “Some of those young kids, Mackenzie and Carrie, are going to get a chance to play.”
They played well Monday, but not as well first-place Elkhorn North. The Wolves dominated the invite, finishing with just 316 team strokes.
North's Emily and Julia Karmazin took first and second, too, finishing with a 4-under 68 and 1-under 71 strokes, respectively. Cecilia Arndt of Columbus Scotus was third with a 76.
Moore, meanwhile, earned her 12th-place finish with a pair of birdies on holes No. 1 and 3. Stirek also birdied the par-5 third hole.
Wilson, meanwhile, also mentioned No. 3 as her best.
“My drive went far and straight,” the Bear said.
She finished with 113 overall swings.
“A couple holes were rough, but I didn't think about them too hard after that,” Wilson added.
Truhlsen carded 110 storkes over 18 holes for BHS, too, while Storjohan shot a 118. Anissa Hill took 122 swings and Litzy Ortiz finished with 128.
The Bears' Addie Stirek notched 129 strokes for the day, while Lillian Tiedgen carded 131.
“We have three more meets left and I'm committed to making sure all of the girls end up with a varsity letter,” Udey said, revealing his plans on the way to the district meet in early October.
Blair isn't where it needs to be to reach its third-straight state tournament as a team, but it can get closer during the next couple of weeks.
“We just need to work on some things,” the coach said. “We need to lower some scores a little bit.”
