The Class B No. 9 Blair girls basketball team knocked off Class C1 No. 10 Wahoo despite two injuries to key guards Tuesday night.
Sami Murray was hurt during the junior varsity game, while Mya Larson left the BHS floor after an injury during the varsity teams' third period. In response, coach Matt Aschoff said the Bears filled their teammates' shoes to deliver a 51-37 victory.
“Makayla Baughman stepped up huge,” he said. “(Larson) got hurt toward the end of the third, so we were very proud of the girls stepping up to fill that spot.”
Baughman finished with a game-high 21 points with six 2-point buckets and two from behind the 3-point arc. Larson, meanwhile, finished with 12 points before her injury and Leah Chance had nine.
Aschoff said substitutes played well filling in for Murray off of the bench as well. The end result was Blair's eighth win of the season.
The Bears improved to 8-3, while Wahoo fell to 6-5 in defeat.
