The Arlington boys wrestling team hosted Pender and Wisner-Pilger on Thursday for a triangular.
Outnumbered, coach Doug Hart's Eagles lost a 48-36 dual to the Pendragons before the Gators topped them 42-18. In contested matches, however, the home team went 5-5 overall.
Ben Flesner earned AHS' first victory of the night in just 1:33. The 160-pounder pinned Ryan Linkous of Pender during the first period to give the Eagles a 6-0 dual lead.
With the score even, 6-6, Tate Johannes stepped into the circle for a bout with Dylan Linkous at 182. The Pendragon made the first major move, attempting a standing gator roll.
“Every match, you just have that moment where you go from 'I'm in it' to 'I'm ready to go,” Johannes said. “And getting rolled like that sure puts you in that mind set.”
The Eagle battled his way back, taking a 4-3 lead before earning a third-period pin.
“If you have the opportunity to get the pin, you've just got to go,” he said.
Johannes earned the fall in 5:20.
“If you can tell they're starting to lean, then you go for it,” he said, detailing the end of his match.
Arlington's Trey Hill and Kolton Gilmore added pins at 113 and 152 pounds, respectively, but Pender earned the dual win. The visiting team benefitted from seven open weight class forfeits.
Wisner-Pilger, meanwhile, went 4-1 in contested matches against AHS. Tanner Kyllo claimed the Eagles lone victory, pinning the Gators' Gabe Liermann in 51 seconds at 132 pounds.
