Girls compete at Malcolm, too

Arlington wrestler Trey Hill earned his first pin in just 1:37 and didn't stop there.
The 113-pound Eagle went 3-0 with three pins Friday, winning his weight class during the Jack Murray Wrestling Invite. The 16-5 grappler led coach Doug Hart's team in Ashland as it finished ninth overall.
Hill opened against Derrek Marquardt of Holdrege, beat William Milczski of Plattsmouth in 2:47 and pinned Iowan Ryan Brenner of MVAOCOU in 1:52.
AHS' Jake Flesner and Kolton Gilmore added top-three finishes during the invite, too. Flesner went 0-2 against Omaha Skutt's Gavin Ourada, but was second at 106 pounds.
Gilmore, meanwhile, shook off a semifinals loss to the Skyhawks' 152-pounder — Benidetto Aburumuh — to finish third with a 3-1 tournament record. The 17-5 Eagle had two pins and won his third-place match agains Elkhorn Mount Michael's Sebastian Duran by 8-0 major decision.
Ben Flesner added a win at 160 pounds for Arlington, too, pinning Nebraska City's Dane Sijulin. He went 1-2 overall.
Prior to their trip to Ashland, however, the Eagles split duals with Stanton and Oakland-Craig on the Mustangs' home mats. They beat their hosts 30-27 first with Gilmore and Ben Flesner earning contested victories. Both claimed second-period pins.
Then, against the Oakland Knights, AHS' Tate Johannes earned a 12-9 decision victory against Landon Hilliard at 182 pounds. It wasn't enough, however, as the Eagles lost 36-33.
In total, coach Hart's team competed in just six varsity matches at the triangular event, which ended less than 24 hours before Arlington's stint in Ashland.

AHS girls claim 13th in Malcolm
The Arlington girls wrestling team returned to the mat for the first time in 2023 on Saturday.
The Eagles scored 37 team points, finishing 13th out 26 lineups at the Malcolm Invite. They had four individual medalists.
Jaydin Allen was third at 145 pounds, going 3-1 on the day. She earned three pins, securing the third-place match against Lincoln Northwest's CadiJohn Rivera in 4:05.
AHS' Kelise Krivohlavek, meanwhile, was fourth at 125 pounds. She went 2-2 with a pair of pins, including a 51-second fall during the consolation semifinals round.
Eagles Teagan Taylor and Caitlyn Camp, meanwhile, competed in the 155-pound B weight class, finishing second and third. Both wrestlers went 1-2 with Camp topping Taylor and Taylor besting Liberty Titimi of Wayne.
Arlington's Ireland Erixon and Carly Segebart notched a win apiece in Malcolm, too, but finished shy of a podium spot. The Eagles next compete 9:30 a.m. Saturday in their home tourney.
