A Monday afternoon traffic stop in Arlington by a Washington County’s Sheriff’s deputy resulted in an exchange of gunfire with a man in the car, who was shot and rushed to a local hospital.
Multiple news organizations were reporting the man had a weapon in his waistband and wouldn’t comply with a deputy’s instruction. He also allegedly had an outstanding felony arrest warrant.
The woman driving the car was driving on a suspended license, media outlets are saying.
Details of the encounter have not been confirmed by the Arlington Citizen, and inquiries to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department were referred to the Nebraska State Patrol Monday night.
When a deputy stopped the vehicle in question the driver allegedly exited from the driver’s side, but the man in the passenger’s seat would not. It has been reported that deputies called for back-up from Dodge County and continued to shout at the man to get out of the vehicle.
In a cell phone video recording by a witness, the man hopped out of the vehicle, allegedly fired at least eight shots at several law enforcement vehicles and hit at least one of their windshields before running. Deputies returned fire, striking the shooter.
